We all agree that there is something about a really good hotel bathroom.
Everything looks clean, everything has its place, the towels are perfectly soft, the soap smells expensive and even washing your hands feels luxurious.
I've always wondered how come it feels so different than it does at home, so I thought: why we don't recreate more of that feeling in our own bathrooms.
You don't need to renovate your bathroom or spend thousands to make it feel more luxurious.
In fact, I think it's about the little details.
The things you use every single day, but probably haven't thought much about.
So if you're looking to make your bathroom feel a little more chic and polished, these are the things I'd start with.
A Hand Soap + Hand Cream Duo
This is probably one of the easiest changes you can make, and it instantly makes your sink look more put together.
Instead of having one random bottle of hand soap sitting next to the sink, create a little duo with a beautiful hand soap and a matching or coordinating hand cream.
I especially love the look of simple bottles in neutral colours, whether that's glass, ceramic or something that doesn't have a giant colourful label on it.
And don't just think about how it looks. Choose a scent you genuinely love. You're going to be washing your hands several times a day, so you might as well make it a nice little experience.
Invest in Nice Towels
You know the feeling of stepping out of a shower and wrapping yourself in a thick, soft towel?
That's exactly the feeling we're going for.
I would keep your towels relatively simple and coordinated. White, cream, beige, taupe or another neutral shade will always give you that hotel feeling, and having them all match makes the whole bathroom look much more intentional.
You can also keep a few smaller hand towels folded or rolled for guests.
Even if nobody is actually staying over, there is something about having them ready that makes your bathroom feel like a proper hotel bathroom. And please wash them regularly.
Fresh, clean towels are part of the experience.
A Small Tray for Your Glasses & Rings
This is one of those tiny details that you don't realize you need until you have one.
Put a small tray beside the sink where you can place your glasses, rings, watch or little pieces of jewellery when you're washing your face, showering or getting ready.
It keeps everything from being scattered around the bathroom, and suddenly, something that would normally look like clutter becomes part of the styling.
You only need a small $10–15 ceramic, glass, marble or neutral tray. It's such a little thing, but these are exactly the details that make a space feel considered.
Get a Bathtub Tray
If you have a bathtub, please get one of these!!
A bathtub tray makes an ordinary bath feel like an occasion. You can put your book on it, a candle, a cup of tea, your phone or whatever else you want nearby while you're in the bath.
And even when you're not using it, a simple tray sitting across the bathtub can make the whole room look more styled.
It's one of those purchases that makes you wonder why you didn't get one sooner.
A Chic Bathroom Bin
Bathroom bins are not exactly glamorous, but they are necessary, so you might as well make yours look nice.
Instead of a cheap plastic bin that stands out from everything else in the room, look for something simple that fits with your bathroom. A small woven, textured, metal or neutral-coloured bin can make a surprising difference.
The goal is for every object in the room to feel like it belongs there.
Make Your Tissue Box Part of the Décor
If you keep tissues in your bathroom, get a proper tissue-box cover instead of leaving the original cardboard packaging on display.
It takes something that normally looks like clutter and turns it into part of the room.
And this is really the whole idea behind making your bathroom feel chic: you don't necessarily need fewer things. You just need the everyday things to look intentional.
EXTRA TIPS...just between us 😉
Add a Beautiful Candle
You really don't need five of them sitting around the bathroom. One beautiful candle is enough.
Light it while you're having a bath, doing your skincare at night or simply when you want the bathroom to feel special.
Choose something that fits the room rather than a brightly coloured candle with packaging that clashes with everything else.
And obviously, never leave a lit candle unattended.
Personally, I LOVE Rituals candles!!!!
I feel like they’re the perfect bathroom candle because they smell amazing, look beautiful sitting on the counter and instantly make the room feel more luxurious. You can find their candles on the Rituals website
Give Your Bathroom a Signature Scent
This is something I think makes a bigger difference than people realise.
You want to walk into your bathroom and immediately associate it with a particular feeling.
Maybe that's a clean linen scent, fresh eucalyptus, something woody, a soft floral or a warm vanilla (my fav!!!)
Whatever you personally love. Try to keep your soaps, candles and other scented products relatively cohesive so that you're not mixing ten completely different smells together.
A beautiful-smelling bathroom feels instantly more luxurious. And eventually, that scent becomes part of the experience of being at home.
Keep It Actually Clean!!!!
You can have the most beautiful towels, the most expensive hand soap and the prettiest candle in the world, but if your bathroom isn't clean, none of it matters.
This is probably the most important part!
It's actually really easy to keep your bathroom clean once you get into the habit.
You don't need to spend an hour cleaning it every day. It's more about getting into the habit of taking care of little things as you go.
When you wash your hands, keep a little disposable or washable towel nearby so you can quickly wipe up the water around the sink instead of letting it sit there and leave marks.
When you wake up in the morning, give the bathroom a little clean-up. Put things back where they belong, wipe down the sink, straighten your towels and make sure everything looks fresh before you start your day.
Clean the mirror when it needs it. Keep the shower and bathtub clean. Empty the bin before it starts overflowing. Wash your towels regularly and don't let products slowly take over every surface.
These little habits take minutes, but they make a huge difference.
A five-star hotel bathroom feels luxurious because everything is clean, fresh and looked after.
That is the feeling you want to recreate at home.
